Incense from China is widely used in religious rituals and was used for medicinal purposes from early times.  It is believed that China created and perfected the incense stick.  Although incense was originally imported from India, these were powders and resins and needed an outside source of heat for burning.  Today, we can thank Incense from China each time we light a simple stick for our pleasure.
