Incense was brought into Tibet from India along with the teachings of Buddha.  During destruction of the monasteries in India, the recipes for this ancient incense may have been lost, but the Tibetan monasteries became a safe place for the information. When the Monks left Tibet to return to India, they brought with them the lost Indian recipes, which became Tibetan Incense.   Tibetan incense is traditionally made from juniper, musk and clay and it is used in every Buddhist ritual by both Monks and the common people.
